Ew! There's a giant cockroach in my kitchen!?

I live in a nice, clean apartment complex and I'm a clean freak myself. I live in Florida, so we get a lot of insects. I've noticed a few (big!!!) cockroaches outside around the stairs only during the night time. Yesterday it rained and I found a HUGE cockroach inside my spotless kitchen. EW! I tried to kill it but it ran under the dishwasher and I completely sprayed everything around it with bug spray. Is that enough to kill it?
